Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q.  What is cost of the ExHAC?

A.  ExHAC is sold on a subscription basis.  The monthly cost is US$400.  There is no term obligation.  Year subscription is $3600.  We have options for corporate purchases based on number of ExHAC application and ExHAC training seats you need.

Q.  What will the training course component do for me?

A.  The training course provides guidance in using the IEC 60079-10-1 standard and the ExHAC software application.  It will also help prepare you for the IECEx CoPC Unit 002 certification exam that verifies your competence with classifying hazardous areas.

Q.  Does the ExHAC show extent of zone in the ExHAC?

A.  Yes, this software calculates the vertical and horizontal distances.

Q.  How are the autoignition temperatures calculated, and will they save us time?

A.  The autoignition temperatures are calculated using molar percentages.  The background for the method is fully explained in our training course.

Q.  Does the ExHAC software create diagrams?

A.  No. The ExHAC is a calculation tool.  It’s up to you to create the diagrams, using engineering judgement and the results from the ExHAC output.

Q.  What does the ExHAC software do?

A. The ExHAC software performs the IEC 60079-10-1 Ed. 3.0 calculations for your area classification.  It also generates a report that you can download in Excel or a PDF format.

Q.  Who is the ExHAC most suited for?

A.  The ExHAC is most suited for engineering consulting firms or for engineers who conduct hazardous area classifications for equipment applications.

Q.  What is included in the cost of the ExHAC?

A.  The cost of the ExHAC includes access to the software and training course with the option to purchase the IEC 60079-10-1 Ed. 3.0 standard directly from the IEC.

Q.  Does the EXHAC software show shapes of the sources of release?

A.  No.  The ExHAC application does not provide diagrams.  The IEC 60079-10-1 standard determines the degree and the extent of a hazardous location using calculation-based methods.  The calculation results may be applied to standard diagrams using engineering judgement to create an overall classification design.  The ExHAC course application examples will show you how this is done.

Q.  Does the ExHAC software deal with indoor applications for ventilation assessments?

A.  Yes, the ExHAC application can perform a ventilation assessment based on forced ventilation and natural ventilation.  The ventilation assessment algorithm estimates the ventilation velocity and performs a background concentration check to determine the Zone classification of enclosed area in accordance with the IEC standard.

Q.  Can we create our own flammable compounds and mixtures using the ExHAC software?

A. Yes, users can create customized flammable compounds and add them to the mixtures within the ExHAC software.

Q.  Can the ExHAC software perform a combustible dust classification assessment?

A.  No.  ExHAC application is based on IEC 60079-10-1 which applies to explosive gas atmospheres.   Our ExHAC-DUST application based on the IEC 60079-10-2 standard for combustible dusts atmospheres is currently under development and we expect to release it in the near future.

Q.  What is the duration of the hazardous area classification training course?

A.  The training course provides eight-hours of instruction in an online format.  The course is web based and may be accessed from any browser platform.

Q.  What are your credentials as a training course provider?

A.  We are an IECEx Recognized Training Provider, listed on the IECEx Website. All of our senior engineers are IECEx CoPC certified.  The course was developed by Allan Bozek who actively participates on multiple code committees involved in hazardous locations.

Q.  Can you provide someone with an IECEx Certificate of Personnel Competence?

A.  No.  We are not a certification agency.  To become IECEx CoPC certified, you must contact one of the certification agencies listed in the following link:  https://www.iecex.com/information/excbs/certified-persons/

Q.  What are the benefits of the ExHAC software?

A.  The software is an easy-to-use interface. It reduces error, minimizing risk and is self-documenting.     It allows for an optimized design, while saving you time and effort.
